About LaPrade's Marina On Lake Burton

Located on Lake Burton, Georgia

Prior to VMG’s acquisition of the marina, LaPrade’s was first opened as a fish camp in 1925, and became famous for its family style restaurant and rustic rental cabins. The LaPrades family ran the operation until 1972 when they sold to the Nichols family. The Nichols family ran the camp and marina for 30 years before selling to LaPrade’s Investors and Developers in 2002. LaPrade’s investors planned a residential and commercial development. However, after the financial loss of 50 of the original 91 acres due to foreclosure in November of 2004 and the mysterious fire that destroyed the famous restaurant on the morning of Mother’s Day, May 15th, 2005, they decided to sell. VMG formed LaPrade’s Marina, LLC and purchased the property on March 28, 2006.

The LaPrade’s property currently has approximately 12 acres and 1,950 feet of frontage along Lake Burton, with the remaining 30 +/- acreage located directly across Highway 197. VMG has been redeveloping the entire marina on the lakefront acreage. Currently LaPrade’s consists of a newly completed Adirondack style 2 story building built by Anthony McCracken Construction Company in the unique round log timber framed style. This main building houses the Lakeside Grill and Bar, The Chophouse restaurant and the marina store.

There are three different types of slips available for rent, two fuel docks, and two restaurants on premise. In addition, there is a full service boat repair on site.  Lastly, there is a beautiful adirondack style pavilion, with a stacked stone fireplace, that is available to rent for rehearsal dinners, weddings, family reunions, birthdays parties, etc.

Today, LaPrade’s Marina is a full service marina located on Lake Burton in Rabun County, GA less than two hours northeast of Atlanta. Lake Burton is the largest lake in the area, spanning across 2,775 acres with a total of 62 miles of shoreline. The lake is included in the listing of the top ten most pristine lakes in the United States and remains full of clear, clean, cool water throughout the boating season. Host to families who swim, boat and fish, the lake also provides opportunities for the famed ‘Cocktail Cruises in Sunset Cove’ just off the western shore of Burton Island.
